Overview

What is a Heathrow to Reading transfer?

A Heathrow to Reading taxi transfer is a booked private hire journey from the airport to any address in Reading at a price agreed before travel. Taxiqo runs it from £95 in a saloon, from the terminal to your door.

The drive is 26 to 29 miles, almost all of it on the M4. From Heathrow Airport the car joins the M4 at junction 4 and heads west, leaving at junction 10 for the east of Reading and the University, junction 11 for the town centre and Green Park, or junction 12 for the west side. Allow 45 to 65 minutes. The shorter end is an off-peak run, while the University and Green Park, just off the motorway, can be quicker still. The slow stretch is the M4 between Heathrow and Slough in the morning and evening rush.

Reading has several business parks close to the M4, among them Green Park and Thames Valley Park, and many people booking this run are on business travel, heading to an office there, a meeting in the town centre, or a hotel before one. Others are students going to the University of Reading, patients and visitors to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, or residents coming home after a flight.

Below you will find the fare in every vehicle class, how pickup works at Heathrow and where in Reading we drop off, what the price includes, how a car compares with the train and the coach, and how to book. The questions at the end cover journey time, delayed flights, luggage and the return journey.

Why book a car

Why take a car from Heathrow to Reading

There is no direct train from Heathrow to Reading. By rail you take the Elizabeth line and change on the way, about an hour in all, and you still need to get from Reading station to your address.

The coach link is direct but runs to a timetable and stops at the station. An airport transfer by car goes from the arrivals hall to the door, which saves the onward leg from the station at the end.

About an hour from arrivals, less off-peak
Flight tracked, so a delayed arrival moves the pickup
Sixty minutes of free waiting from touchdown
No changes and no carrying cases between trains

Car, train or coach to Reading?

The coach link runs straight to Reading station and takes about an hour. If you are travelling alone with one bag and staying near the station, it is a sensible choice.

The train takes about an hour too, with a change on the Elizabeth line, and like the coach it leaves you at the station rather than at your address. With luggage, or for an office out on a business park, it is rarely the easier option.

A car takes 45 to 65 minutes door to door, with no onward leg from the station, and is the better choice for two or more people, for business travellers on a schedule, or after a late landing. For client travel, a Mercedes E-Class at £130 is a common choice, and four people sharing an estate pay about £30 each.

Booking

Booking a Heathrow to Reading transfer

Give us your flight number and your full Reading address, including the postcode. For an office, add the company or building name so the driver goes to the right reception.

  1. 1

    Enter the journey

Put Heathrow as the pickup and your Reading address as the destination. The fare returns instantly and does not change afterwards.

  2. 2

    Add your flight number

This is what we track. If the flight lands early or late, the pickup moves with it at no extra charge.

  3. 3

    Choose a vehicle

Count the cases, not just the people. A saloon takes two large cases; four cases need an estate or larger.

  4. 4

    Confirm and travel

You get written confirmation with the fare and the driver's details. Pay by card, cash or business account.
