Overview

What is a Saloon?

A saloon is a four-door car seating up to four passengers with room for two large cases in the boot. It is the default class at Taxiqo and the one most journeys are quoted in, starting at £70 for a short journey and £80 from Heathrow to central London.

The fare covers the car, not the seat. Four people travelling together pay the same £80 as one person travelling alone, which is what makes a saloon the cheapest way for a couple or a small family to reach an airport once you count individual rail tickets.

Where a saloon runs out of room is luggage rather than seats. Four adults fit comfortably; four adults with four suitcases do not. If everyone is bringing a large case, the estate is the class to book instead.

Who it suits

Who books a saloon

A saloon suits most airport transfers, because most airport journeys are one or two people with one or two bags.

It is also the class that makes the strongest case against the train once there are two or more of you. Rail tickets are paid per person and end at a station; a saloon fare covers the whole car and stops at your door.

  • Solo travellers and couples heading to an airport
  • Two adults with one large case each
  • A family of four travelling light or with hand luggage
  • Business travellers on a day return with a laptop bag

Saloon or estate?

Both seat four. The difference is entirely behind the rear seats: a saloon takes two large cases, an estate takes four. From Heathrow to central London the estate is £100 against £80 for the saloon.

So the question is not how many of you there are, it is how many cases you are bringing. Two people with a case each are fine in a saloon. Four people with a case each are not, and arriving to find the boot too small is the one failure mode this class has. When it is close, book the estate.

Very easy to book and the price was clear from the start. The driver was professional and the vehicle was clean. I would definitely use TAXIQO again.
