Overview

What is a Gatwick taxi transfer?

A Gatwick taxi transfer moves you between London Gatwick (LGW) and a chosen address for a price settled at the point of booking. Taxiqo prices these journeys from £80 in a saloon seating four with two large cases.

Gatwick lies 30 miles south of the capital in West Sussex, reached by the M23 and the M25. Reckon on 60 to 90 minutes by road, more during the evening peak on the southern M25. The airport runs two passenger terminals, North and South, linked by an inter-terminal shuttle that takes about two minutes. They're separate buildings with separate forecourts, and a driver sent to the wrong one costs you time you don't have.

Drivers hold private hire licences and the vehicles are plated accordingly. The quoted fare swallows Gatwick's £10 drop-off charge, motorway tolls, ULEZ where a route touches it and VAT. That charge covers a 10 minute stay, then climbs by £1 a minute up to half an hour, and cameras read plates on the way in and out.

What follows sets out Gatwick fares by destination, including the run to Heathrow (for the other direction, see the Heathrow to Gatwick transfer), how the two terminals differ, which vehicle fits your party, everything folded into the price, how the drive stacks up against the Gatwick Express, and the booking steps. Questions at the foot of the page deal with delayed landings, meeting points, group travel, the drop-off fee and amendments.

Why Taxiqo

Why pre-book rather than take the rank

Pre-booking fixes the number before you fly, which matters more at Gatwick than at the closer London airports simply because the distance is greater. A metered run over 30 miles swings hard with traffic. Ours doesn't move.

The other gain is the terminal. Because North and South have separate forecourts, an allocated car already knows which building to sit outside. You skip the shuttle entirely.

  • Private hire licensed operator, drivers DBS checked
  • One quoted fare, confirmed in writing
  • Arrival monitored by flight number, not clock time
  • 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown
  • Business accounts and card payment available
  • Team reachable around the clock

How much does a Gatwick transfer cost?

A saloon into central London is £95, and fares scale with the run and the vehicle. Everyone in the car travels on that single fare. There's no per-head supplement and no late-night loading.

North terminal or South terminal?

Both terminals are served in either direction. Your flight number tells us which one, so you needn't work it out yourself.

South Terminal is the older of the pair and sits directly above Gatwick Airport railway station. North Terminal is a separate building about a mile away. The shuttle between them is free and frequent, but it's a step nobody wants after a red-eye. Naming the terminal at booking removes it.

01

North Terminal

A separate building with its own forecourt and short-stay car parks. Your flight number tells us if you are using it, and your airline shows the terminal on your booking.

02

South Terminal

The older of the two buildings, with its own forecourt. Sits directly over the mainline station.

03

Inter-terminal shuttle

Free automated transit running every few minutes, roughly a two minute ride between the two.

04

Gatwick Airport station

Beneath South Terminal, served by Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Southern services.

What's included

What you get for the quoted fare

Bundled into the price is every cost the trip generates, so the figure agreed at booking is the figure settled at the end.

  • Gatwick drop-off charge of £10 for a 10 minute stay
  • Short-stay parking when you choose meet and greet
  • Motorway tolls where the routing requires them
  • ULEZ and congestion charge on journeys entering either zone
  • VAT at the standard rate
  • A full hour of complimentary waiting after landing

For how the charge works and what it costs, read Gatwick drop-off charge explained.

Arrivals

Where does the driver meet you?

Arrivals are served by one of two pickup types. Meet and greet places the driver inside the terminal; a standard pickup meets you at the designated pickup point outside.

Vehicle choice

Which vehicle do you need?

Choose by passenger count first, then by luggage. Count pushchairs, ski bags and golf clubs as large cases. Under-filling a vehicle is the most common cause of a transfer going wrong at the kerb.

Car or Gatwick Express?

Gatwick Express runs non-stop to Victoria in 30 minutes, and on pure line speed no road option touches it. The catch is the same one every airport rail link has. It delivers you to a terminus, not to a doorstep, and the last leg with cases usually eats the saving.

Thameslink costs less and stops more, threading through London Bridge, Farringdon and St Pancras. So rail makes sense travelling light to a station near your destination. A car earns its keep with a family, an early departure, a late arrival or a postcode nowhere near the Brighton main line. Party size then decides which vehicle class to book.
