The shortest airport run in London, priced before you travel. Six miles from the City, one terminal, and a car waiting at the door.
A London City taxi transfer is a booked private hire journey between London City Airport (LCY) and an address you name, at a fare set before travel. Taxiqo runs these from £70 in a saloon carrying up to four passengers and two large cases.
London City occupies a strip of the Royal Docks in Newham, 6 miles east of the City of London and closer to the centre than any of its rivals. The drive takes 25 to 40 minutes to most central postcodes, and appreciably less to Canary Wharf, which sits barely four miles west along the A1020. One compact terminal handles every flight.
Drivers hold private hire licences and vehicles carry the matching plate. The airport introduced an £8 drop-off charge in January 2026, the last of the capital's six airports to do so, and that charge is inside the quote. So are tolls, the congestion charge, ULEZ and VAT. The charge buys five minutes at the forecourt, then runs at £1 a minute to a ten minute ceiling.
What follows covers what each London City run costs, how the Royal Docks site handles pickup, choosing a vehicle for your party, everything the fare takes in, how a car reads against the DLR, and the booking process. Questions at the end deal with business travel, the ExCeL and Canary Wharf runs, luggage, early departures and changes to a booking.
Business travel drives most of the traffic here, and business travellers book ahead for one reason: the schedule is tight. London City's short runway and steep approach suit turboprops and small jets on quick European rotations, and passengers are often connecting straight into a meeting.
A car waiting at arrivals removes the variable. And because the airport sits close in, the fare stays modest even when the destination is a City address at 08:30.
A saloon to central London is £75, the lowest central London fare of the London airports we serve, purely because the distance is short. Canary Wharf, closer still, is £70. The price covers the car rather than the seat.
| Destination | Vehicle | Journey time | Fixed fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central London | Saloon | 25 to 40 min | £75 |
| Canary Wharf | Saloon | 15 to 25 min | £70 |
| The City | Saloon | 20 to 35 min | £75 |
| Stratford | Saloon | 15 to 30 min | £70 |
| Heathrow Airport | Saloon | 60 to 95 min | £95 |
| Greenwich | Saloon | 15 to 25 min | £70 |
Pickup here is about as simple as it gets. The terminal is small enough to cross in a couple of minutes, arrivals and departures share one building, and the forecourt sits immediately outside.
Because the site runs along the old King George V Dock, road access comes off Hartmann Road and the A1020. That single approach can tighten during the morning peak, which is worth knowing if you're departing rather than arriving.
One compact building for all flights. Meet and greet drivers wait inside the arrivals area.
Immediately outside arrivals, used for standard pickups. The bay number comes by text.
Platform reached directly from the terminal, with no shuttle bus. Trains roughly every 10 minutes.
The single road access off the A1020, and the reason departures allow extra time in the morning peak.
Taken into the quoted figure is each cost the journey creates, so the amount shown at booking is the amount paid at the end.
Arrivals are served by one of two pickup types. Meet and greet places the driver inside the terminal; a standard pickup meets you at the designated pickup point outside.
Choose by passenger count first, then by luggage. Count pushchairs, ski bags and golf clubs as large cases. Under-filling a vehicle is the most common cause of a transfer going wrong at the kerb.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Large cases | Example | From |

Very easy to book and the price was clear from the start. The driver was professional and the vehicle was clean. I would definitely use TAXIQO again.

DLR trains leave the terminal every 10 minutes and reach Bank in 23 minutes, with the platform accessible straight from the building. For a single traveller with a laptop bag heading into the City, that's genuinely hard to beat on either time or cost.
On cost the DLR wins outright: even split three ways, a car at £75 to central London costs each person several times a DLR fare. What the car buys is the rest of the journey. DLR carriages get crowded through the Isle of Dogs at peak, there are stairs at several interchanges, and Bank is a long walk between lines, while a car takes you and your cases to the door. Party size and case count decide the class of car.
Reserving takes about a minute. Enter both addresses, set the date and time, choose your class of car and confirm. You see the fare before committing.
