Overview

What is a Heathrow to Birmingham transfer?

A Heathrow to Birmingham taxi transfer is a booked private hire journey from the airport to any address in Birmingham at a price agreed before travel. Taxiqo runs it from £315 in a saloon, from the terminal to your door.

The drive is 116 to 118 miles, depending on where in Birmingham you are going. It follows the M25 north to junction 16, the M40 and the M42, then the A45 or the A38 into the city depending on the address. Allow 2 hours to 2 hours 45 minutes. Off-peak the run takes about 2 hours; the slow stretches are the M25 close to the Heathrow terminals and the roads into central Birmingham at peak times.

Many people booking this journey are business travellers heading to an exhibition or conference at the NEC or the ICC, or to an office in the city centre. Others are going to a concert at the Utilita Arena, an event at Resorts World, a match at Edgbaston, the University of Birmingham, a hotel or home. What they share is luggage and a wish not to cross London with it.

Below you will find the fare in every vehicle class, how pickup works at Heathrow and where in Birmingham we drop off, what the price includes, how a car compares with the coach and the train, and how to book. The questions at the end cover journey time, delayed flights, luggage and the return journey.

Why book a car

Why take a car from Heathrow to Birmingham

There is no direct train from Heathrow to Birmingham. Rail means getting into London first, crossing to Euston and changing, with your luggage, onto a train to Birmingham New Street, for a journey of roughly 2.5 hours door to door.

Direct coaches run, but they take roughly 3 hours and stop at set points, so you still need to get to the NEC, your hotel or your address from there. A door to door airport transfer goes from the arrivals hall to wherever you are going.

Door to door, to the NEC, a hotel or any address
Pickup timed to your landing, not to a timetable
Flight tracked, so a delayed arrival moves the pickup
Sixty minutes of free waiting from touchdown
Room for a group's luggage in the larger vehicles
One fixed fare, agreed before you travel

Terminals

Pickup at Heathrow, drop-off across Birmingham

Heathrow has four passenger terminals. We take your flight number at booking and work out the terminal from it, so the driver is in the right place when you land.

In Birmingham we drop at the address you give us: an exhibition hall, a hotel, an office or a home, and the fare is fixed when you book. If your flight lands at Birmingham Airport rather than Heathrow, we also run Birmingham Airport transfers.

  • Heathrow arrivalsMeet and greet drivers wait inside the arrivals hall of Terminals 2, 3, 4 or 5 with a name board. Car park charges are inside the fare.
  • Heathrow forecourtStandard pickups use the designated pickup area at each terminal. The driver sends the exact spot once they are there.
  • Birmingham city centre£315 in a saloon. New Street station, the ICC, the Utilita Arena, the Jewellery Quarter and the central hotels.

Car, coach or train to Birmingham?

The coach is the cheapest way to Birmingham and takes roughly 3 hours. If you are travelling alone with one bag and your address is close to the stop, it is a sensible choice.

The train is quicker than the coach but less direct: roughly 2.5 hours, going into London and out again from Euston to Birmingham New Street, and you still need a taxi or bus from New Street to your address. With luggage it is rarely the easy option.

A car is the better choice when there are two or more of you, when you are carrying luggage or exhibition materials, or when your flight might land late. Four colleagues sharing an estate car at £340 pay about £85 each, door to door.

Booking

Booking a Heathrow to Birmingham transfer

Give us your flight number and your full Birmingham address, including the postcode. For the NEC or the ICC, add the hall or hotel name so the driver goes to the right entrance.

  1. 1

    Enter the journey

Put Heathrow as the pickup and your Birmingham address as the destination. The fare returns instantly and does not change afterwards.

  2. 2

    Add your flight number

This is what we track. If the flight lands early or late, the pickup moves with it at no extra charge.

  3. 3

    Choose a vehicle

Count the cases, not just the people. A saloon takes two large cases; a team travelling together with luggage usually needs an estate or larger.

  4. 4

    Confirm and travel

You get written confirmation with the fare and the driver's details. Pay by card, cash or business account.
