Overview

What is a Birmingham taxi transfer?

A Birmingham Airport taxi transfer is a pre-booked private hire journey linking Birmingham Airport (BHX) with an address of your choosing, priced before departure. Taxiqo quotes these from £70 in a saloon seating four with two large cases.

Birmingham lies 8 miles east of the city centre beside junction 6 of the M42, and the drive takes 20 to 35 minutes. One passenger terminal handles every flight, so there is no terminal to confuse and no inter-terminal shuttle to catch. Arrivals empty into a single hall with the forecourt directly outside.

Taxiqo is based in London. Journeys at Birmingham Airport are driven by a licensed local partner operator, whose drivers and vehicles are licensed for private hire by the local council. Taxiqo takes the booking, fixes the fare and stays your point of contact, with our London team supporting you before and on the day. Birmingham is unusual among large UK airports in that the standard drop-off zone remains free for ten minutes, sitting about 400 metres from the doors. A Premium Set Down bay closer to the terminal costs £7 for fifteen minutes, and where that is used it comes out of the fare rather than your pocket. Tolls, clean air zone charges and VAT are covered too.

What follows sets out Birmingham fares by destination, from the NEC to Manchester Airport, how the single terminal works for pickup, choosing a vehicle for your party, everything the price absorbs, how the car reads against the Air-Rail Link, and the booking steps. Questions at the end cover the free drop-off zone, NEC events, delayed flights, luggage and amendments.

Why Taxiqo

Why pre-book at Birmingham

Events drive a lot of the demand here. The NEC, its arena and Resorts World sit on the airport's doorstep, and when a big show turns out the local taxi supply disappears within minutes of the last act.

Price certainty is the second reason. A booked fare does not shift when the M42 backs up around junction 6, which it does most weekday evenings.

  • Driven by a council-licensed local partner operator
  • Booked, priced and supported by our London team, at any hour
  • One quoted fare, confirmed in writing
  • Arrival monitored by flight number, not schedule
  • Sixty minutes of free waiting after touchdown
  • Business accounts with monthly invoicing

How much does a Birmingham Airport transfer cost?

A saloon into the city centre is £75, and the short hop to the NEC is £70. Fares rise with distance and vehicle size. Everyone in the car travels on one fare, and there is no unsociable-hours supplement.

How pickup works at Birmingham

Pickup arrangements here are simple. A single building serves every airline, so the only choice is where you meet the driver.

Two set-down options exist. The standard zone is free for ten minutes but sits a 400 metre walk from the doors, while Premium Set Down puts the car within a minute of arrivals for £7. Meet and greet uses the closer option and the cost is inside your fare.

01

Main terminal

One building for all flights, with arrivals on the ground floor. Meet and greet drivers wait inside with a name board.

02

Standard drop-off

Free for ten minutes, roughly 400 metres from the terminal doors. On a standard pickup your driver texts the exact meeting point.

03

Premium Set Down

Closest bays to arrivals at £7 for fifteen minutes. Covered by the fare on meet and greet bookings.

04

Birmingham International

Mainline station joined to the terminal by the Air-Rail Link people mover.

What's included

What the Birmingham fare takes in

Taken into the quoted price is every charge the trip generates, so the number agreed at booking is the number settled at the end.

  • Premium Set Down fee where meet and greet is chosen
  • Car park charges on arrivals bookings
  • Motorway tolls on any routing that requires them
  • Clean air zone charges entering central Birmingham
  • VAT at the standard rate
  • An hour of complimentary waiting from the landing time

Vehicle choice

Which vehicle do you need?

Choose by passenger count first, then by luggage. Count pushchairs, ski bags and golf clubs as large cases. Under-filling a vehicle is the most common cause of a transfer going wrong at the kerb.

Car or the Air-Rail Link?

The Air-Rail Link is a cable-hauled people mover joining the terminal to Birmingham International station in about ninety seconds. From there trains reach New Street in roughly 15 minutes, which makes the total journey quick on paper.

It is still two changes with your bags before you reach the city, then a third to get where you are actually going. Rail suits a solo traveller heading somewhere near New Street or Moor Street. A car makes more sense for families, early departures, late landings and anywhere off the West Coast route, and the group size sets the class of vehicle.
