Overview

What is a Manchester taxi transfer?

A Manchester Airport taxi transfer is a booked private hire journey between Manchester Airport (MAN) and an address you name, at a rate settled before travel. Taxiqo prices these from £75 in a saloon carrying four passengers and two large cases.

Manchester sits 9 miles south of the city centre, next to junction 5 of the M56. Count on 25 to 40 minutes into town, more when the Mancunian Way is heavy. Three passenger terminals operate here: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 has been substantially extended under the airport's transformation programme and now handles the bulk of long-haul traffic, so the terminal your airline uses may have changed since you last flew.

Taxiqo is based in London. Journeys at Manchester Airport are driven by a licensed local partner operator, whose drivers and vehicles are licensed for private hire by the local council. Taxiqo takes the booking, fixes the fare and stays your point of contact, with our London team supporting you before and on the day. Manchester's £5 drop-off charge buys five minutes at the forecourt and is folded into the quote, along with any motorway tolls a route uses and VAT, so nothing is settled at the kerb.

Below: what a Manchester run costs by destination, including the run to Birmingham Airport, how the three terminals differ, matching a vehicle to your party, everything the fare takes in, how driving reads against the airport rail link, and how to book. The questions afterwards deal with delayed landings, terminal changes, group travel, luggage and cancellation.

Why Taxiqo

Why book a Manchester transfer ahead

Manchester is the busiest UK airport outside London, and the rank reflects it. At peak the queue outside Terminal 2 runs long enough that a pre-booked car often has you moving before you'd have reached the front of it.

The other argument is the terminal shuffle. Airlines have moved between buildings repeatedly through the transformation works, so a driver who reads the terminal off your flight number rather than off an old assumption saves a walk you don't want with cases.

  • Driven by a council-licensed local partner operator
  • Booked, priced and supported by our London team, around the clock
  • Rate agreed before travel and sent in writing
  • Terminal read from your flight number, not guessed
  • An hour of free waiting once the aircraft is down
  • Card, cash or account billing

How much is a taxi from Manchester Airport?

Fares open at £75 for a saloon into the city centre and climb with distance and vehicle size. The rate covers the car, not the seat, so a family pays what a lone traveller pays. No night loading applies.

Which Manchester terminals do we cover?

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are all served in both directions. Send the flight number and the terminal is worked out for you, which matters here more than at most UK airports.

All three sit around a single central complex linked by The Station skywalk, but each has its own forecourt and its own drop-off zone. So arriving at the right one still saves ten minutes on foot.

01

Terminal 1

The oldest of the three. Airlines have been moving to the expanded Terminal 2 under the transformation programme, so check the terminal on your booking.

02

Terminal 2

The expanded main terminal, taking most long-haul traffic.

03

Terminal 3

The smallest of the three, with its own forecourt. Your flight number tells us if you are using it.

04

The Station

Rail, tram and coach interchange, joined to the terminals by a covered skywalk.

What's included

What the Manchester fare covers

Covered by the quoted figure is each cost the journey creates, which keeps the booking price and the final price the same number.

  • Forecourt drop-off charge of £5 for a five minute stay
  • Car park fees where meet and greet is chosen
  • Motorway tolls on any routing that needs them
  • Clean air zone charges where a route crosses one
  • VAT at the standard rate
  • Sixty minutes of free waiting timed from landing
Arrivals

Where does the driver meet you?

Arrivals are served by one of two pickup types. Meet and greet places the driver inside the terminal; a standard pickup meets you at the designated pickup point outside.

Vehicle choice

Which vehicle do you need?

Choose by passenger count first, then by luggage. Count pushchairs, ski bags and golf clubs as large cases. Under-filling a vehicle is the most common cause of a transfer going wrong at the kerb.

Car or the airport rail link?

Rail services from The Station reach Manchester Piccadilly in about 20 minutes, and the Metrolink tram runs the same corridor more slowly but more cheaply. For one person heading to a city-centre hotel, that is a genuinely good option.

Where it falls down is everything else. The skywalk between terminal and platform takes several minutes with luggage, Piccadilly is a walk from most of the centre, and services thin out badly late at night when a lot of Manchester's schedule lands. A car handles the whole thing in one leg. How many are travelling then decides the class of vehicle.
