What is a Range Rover?
The Range Rover is our luxury SUV: up to four passengers, three large cases, from £200. It is the only SUV in the fleet, with a raised ride height and a high seat.
That height is the point rather than a side effect. Passengers step across into the seat instead of dropping down into it, which matters more than any specification sheet to anyone with a stiff hip or a bad back, and the seating position gives a view over traffic that no saloon offers.
It also holds the road differently. Winter runs to the Cotswolds, unmade drives, an estate in bad weather — these are journeys where an executive saloon is the wrong tool and a Range Rover simply is not troubled.
Who it suits
When an SUV is the right answer
Two quite different bookings dominate. The first is presence: weddings, race meetings, events where the car is seen and the arrival is part of it.
The second is far more practical. Passengers who find a low car genuinely difficult to get out of, and journeys that leave the motorway network for country roads in winter.

Range Rover or E-Class?
Both are executive vehicles. The E-Class seats three with two cases from £80; the Range Rover seats four with three cases from £200.
For a business airport transfer into the city, the E-Class is the more sensible booking and the easier car to park at the far end. Choose the Range Rover when the extra seat and the extra case matter, when a passenger needs the higher step, or when the journey leaves the motorway for a country road.
