Overview

What is a Heathrow to Oxford transfer?

Taxiqo drives from Heathrow to any Oxford address, a college lodge, a Headington hospital or a house in Summertown, from £135 in a saloon. It is a private hire booking: the price is agreed when you book, and the car is yours from the terminal to the door.

The drive is 46 to 50 miles. From Heathrow Airport the car takes the M25 north to junction 16, the M40 to junction 8, and the A40 into Oxford from the east, past Thornhill and Headington. Allow 60 to 90 minutes. Outside rush hours, it is a little over an hour. The slow stretches are the M25 near Heathrow and the A40 approach into the city at peak times.

Because the A40 arrives from the east, Headington is the first part of Oxford the car reaches. That suits anyone heading for the John Radcliffe or the Churchill Hospital, or for Oxford Brookes. Other journeys end at a college in the centre, often at the start of term with a year's luggage, at the Oxford Science Park or one of the business parks around Cowley, or at home in north Oxford.

This page gives the fare in every vehicle class, where we drop off in each part of Oxford, what the price covers, and how a car compares with the Oxford coach and the train. The questions at the end cover the coach, college and hospital drop-offs, luggage at the start of term, delayed flights and the trip back to Heathrow.

Why book a car

Why take a car from Heathrow to Oxford

A direct coach runs between Heathrow and Oxford, and for one person with a light bag who is staying in the centre, it works well. It ends at the coach station in the city centre, though, and many Oxford addresses are a bus or taxi ride from there, up the hill to the Headington hospitals, out to Littlemore and Cowley, or north to Summertown and Oxford Parkway.

There is no direct service by train. You change in London or at Reading, around 2 hours in all, and Oxford station sits on the west side of the centre, the furthest point from Headington. An airport transfer by car comes in on the A40 from the east and stops at the door you give us.

Terminals

Pickup at Heathrow, drop-off across Oxford

Your flight number tells us which of Heathrow's four terminals you land at, so you don't need to know it when you book. The driver is waiting at that terminal when you come through.

In Oxford we drop at the address you give us. Several central streets are closed to cars or limited to buses, so for a college in the centre we stop at the lodge where a car can reach it, or at the nearest point that it can.

  • Heathrow arrivalsMeet and greet drivers wait inside the arrivals hall of Terminals 2, 3, 4 or 5 with a name board. Car park charges are inside the fare.
  • Heathrow forecourtStandard pickups use the designated pickup area at each terminal. The driver sends the exact spot once they are there.
  • City centre and colleges (OX1)£135 in a saloon. Colleges, hotels and the station. Give us the college name and we go to its lodge, or as close as a car can get.
  • Headington and the hospitals (OX3)The John Radcliffe, Churchill and Nuffield Orthopaedic hospitals, and Oxford Brookes, reached first along the A40. Tell us the hospital and the department or entrance.
  • Cowley, Littlemore and north OxfordThe Oxford Science Park, the business parks around Cowley, Summertown, Jericho, Oxford Parkway and the park and rides. Enter the address for the exact fixed fare.

Car, coach or train to Oxford?

The coach is the cheapest way from Heathrow to Oxford. It is a direct service to the city centre in roughly 90 minutes. For one person with one bag who is staying in the centre, it is the sensible choice.

The train is slower and less direct. It takes around 2 hours, with a change in London or Reading, and arrives at Oxford station on the west side of the centre. For Headington, Cowley or the Oxford Science Park, that still leaves a journey across the city.

A car makes most sense where the coach and the train are weakest: two or more people, a term's luggage, a late landing, or an address away from the centre. Four people sharing an estate car at £145 pay about £36 each, and go straight to the door.

Booking

Booking a Heathrow to Oxford transfer

Give us your flight number and the full Oxford address with its postcode. For a college, add the college name so the driver goes to the right lodge; for the Headington hospitals, add the hospital and the department.

  1. 1

    Enter the journey

Put Heathrow as the pickup and your Oxford address as the destination. The fare returns instantly and does not change afterwards.

  2. 2

    Add your flight number

This is what we track. If the flight lands early or late, the pickup moves with it at no extra charge.

  3. 3

    Choose a vehicle

Go by the luggage. A saloon takes two large cases; a student arriving for the year, with a family and their bags, usually needs an estate or a V-Class.

  4. 4

    Confirm and travel

You get written confirmation with the fare and the driver's details. Pay by card, cash or business account.
